Yosemite

On the drive to Lake Tahoe, we stopped by the Bonneville Salt Flats. There was still water in places and the effect was great - like walking on water.

We spent two of the days down in Yosemite NP. Again there was lots of hiking, seeing beautiful sights and looking up tall trees and waterfalls.

The fall colors around Mono Lake were great.

While in Yosemite we stayed overnight in a place called Housekeeping camp. The places are basically 3 concrete walls with a curtain and a tent over a patio area so you could cook. Elizabeth was paranoid of bears (because of her dad and the numerous 'don't feed the bears' signs). While sleeping in our concrete tent Dima was on the cot in the middle. He was using a bag for a pillow. In the middle of the night it sounded like he was moving around. Several times we told him to be quiet and I even swatted him. He said, 'it's not meeeee'. The rustling was still going on. We turned on the lights to find a big raccoon dragging his bag outside. It wasn't too big of a deal to scare him away but all of us initially thought 'bear!' Dima later found some cut up oranges in his bag that he had forgot to take out and put in the bear box.

I've waited too long to write about our trip to Yosemite and Lake Tahoe. In fact, it has been a week since we got back

We stayed in a condo at South Lake Tahoe and spend the week hiking and exploring. The weather was beautiful and we were lucky to have plenty of water in the falls due to a snow storm the week before.
The salmon from Lake Tahoe were spawning in a creek there and if was fun watching the thousands of red fish swimming up stream.
.
The last hike was up Horsetail Falls, where we did a bunch of bouldering (and wore the kids out for the drive home).
The fall colors were beautiful.
