June 1, 2010 Elder Johnson
Another week has passed so soon! It was really great to read all of the emails from David, and Tia and from home. Seriously, it makes me so happy to hear about how everyone is doing. I was really excited to hear that Elder Hinckley and Elder Jaccobs left for the missions. I really would love to write them and see how they are doing. (hint for please send me their addresses! :) haha i have to admit i laughed out loud when i heard about Justins farewell. That would have been so funny to see. Oh and don´t worry to much about my diet mom, i´m trying to eat healthy, but i could probably do better! but i´ll send those pics that you asked for. I´lI admit the first week or two or three, was not really the healthiest diet period of my life, but now that i know where to buy food from and where to get the money to buy the food, all is well. Yes! and thank, thank, thank you for the package, it was really awesome. Cereal is perfect down here because its really caro or expensive down here. And thank you for the raman and everything else, really looking forward to eating it and sharing it with my companions. Mom you asked, what things might be good to send in the next package - love the raman, please keep it coming (kitsune udon would be absolutely celestial!), fulikake, ugaigusuli, cereal is great, the instant oat meal packets would actually be a great idea, that´s all i can think of right now but to be honest if i recieve anything at all i´ll be really happy. or and also, one of the other companions in my house asked if you could send him one of the missionary journals i use right now. Apparently, there are different types of journals in Brazil. He saids that if you can buy and send it he will, pay me for however much it costs. And if for whatever reason he leaves for a completely different area in the mission and i can´t contact him, i would always love a new journal ! , cause i just finished my first journal for the mission and started on a new one. Also, papa, for the camera, i was wondering if you could send me an usb extension cord, or whatever kind of cord that connects the camera to the computer (if you don´t have one don´t worry about it.) that way i could send pics by email and receive them by email too.
When I talked to you on the phone you said that you send me the SM card with photos a while back. I´m kinda puzzled why it hasn´t come yet, because it should´ve arrived before the package. If there is anyway you can check where it is that would be amazing. - really excited to see some of the photos you sent on it.
This week a lot of things have been happening. The missionary conference for missionaries last wednesday morning was really great. It was a little hard to focus because, i didn´t understand all the portuguese, was pretty tired from the 6 hour bus drive, had a knarly headache, and was pretty hungry. But I really enjoyed all the counsel and advice our mission presdent and Elder Godoya gave us. I´ve forwarded a pic of the conference in a different email. Last wednesday was the beginning of Carnival in Juazeiro. I got some facts about Carnival wrong. Apparently, the only place having carnival right now is in Juazeiro, and so the past week we saw many tourists and brazilians come to Juazeiro. During carnival, music was playing all day long, all the shops were closed, and there was also a lot of drunk people. We were really careful to stay away from the dangerous areas with the big crowds, escpecially because during carnival it can get really rowdy and dangerous. We also saw huge trucks stationed in the middle of town. Imagine a semi truck that´s one big speaker phone. Now imagine there was 7- 8 of them in the same place playing at the same time - really loud. There were also several famous singers that came into town to sing for carnival. There was one time when we just arrived in our house, when suddenly a really famous singer in Brazil, Ivete Sangalo, started singing not too faraway from where we lived. When my companion and the other brazilian companion heard her, they started screaming like little girls literally! haha it was pretty funny!, and then they climbed on the roof to see if they could hear better!
Also this week had a baptism of a girl 12 years old named ryhannie. This week was also really great because we were able to bring many good investigators to church. Really excited to see them progress. My times up, so till next week!
