Echo Cliffs in Navaho Nation

This is a project I completed from a photo I took of the Echo Cliffs in Navaho Nation in Arizona. I was so impressed by the bright turquoise walls inside this abandoned home and the beauty of the cliffs showing through the opened doors of the home. I used designs from Navaho rugs for the border quilting designs. Sorry to say the colors aren't quilt true to the actual wall hanging.

Mud Bogs

In Bonner's Ferry (a town 30 miles north of us) they have the annual Mud Bogs in May. A field is watered, tilled, watered, tilled, watered, etc. until it becomes a muddy mess. Trucks arrive from all over the area to see who can get from one side of the field to the other. You can imagine the muddy mess!

We didn't need to go to Bonner's Ferry, because we have our very own mud bog right here in Ponder Point. We began digging a 20' x 20' hole in our back yard that will be filled with gravel and, eventually, topped with a cement pad to house our fire pit. Because of the wet spring weather, the hole has filled with water. The water has mixed with the dirt, and VOILA - a backyard mud bog. On a sunny day last week, the girls couldn't help but start sticking sticks in to the water, then it was toes, then it became feet. The next thing I knew, I looked out the window and the mud wars had begun. It was great fun for the girls and their friends. Luckily we had enough hot water to wash bodies and clothing afterward.
